In 2023, SHINE provided funding to improve the family room at St. George's Park in Morpeth.

4.jpgSt. George's Park is home to a range of community and inpatient services, including acute mental health admissions, a Mother and Baby unit and older people's inpatient services.

Gemma Miles, Carer Involvement Lead wanted to provide a comfortable and relaxing room where families can enjoy quality time together in a different location away from the ward.

Gemma decided to host a festive bake sale where £300 was raised and donated to SHINE. The money was able to go towards various items such as a kettle, table, chairs and soft furnishings such as cushions and wall art to make the room feel less clinical. Colleagues also kindly donated items to go towards the improvement of the family room, and it was made child-friendly with the addition of games, colouring and books to read, helping children feel safe and occupied.
