In October SHINE provided funding for activity equipment at Springrise Ward, Hopewood Park, Sunderland

The activity equipment included a folding multi games table, giant dominoes, a giant 4-in-a-row game set, basketball hoop, balls and a giant wooden tumble tower.

Springrise ward community have reported positive staff and patient engagement since the introduction of further garden games / accessories. The ward's community were fully involved in the SHINE application, proposing more outdoor games / activities as this has always brought people together. This is building on recent success reducing restrictive practice, by engaging service users with therapeutic activities on the ward, that promote teambuilding exercises and moral on the ward. 

Springrise Ward also plans to organise weekly competitions, document the scores and issue rewards and prizes. Which will also be documented in the ward newsletter, which is distributed to service users and carers, promoting the positive engagement opportunities that already exist on the ward.

Service users and staff are looking forward to spending more quality time outdoors, in the sunshine, during the summer and spring months.
