IMG_8076.jpgOn 1st October, colleagues at CNTW held a Nigerian Independence Day Celebration. Over 100 people attended the event at RM Arena in Houghton-le-Spring, including members of the Trust’s leadership team.

The day was a colourful celebration of Nigeria's rich cultural heritage, featuring exhibitions of traditional artefacts, Nigerian cuisine, cultural education, a cultural parade, interactive games, music, dancing and competitions. There were also opportunities for meaningful conversations, presentations of awards and fundraising for the SHINE fund.

“What stood out for me was the incredible energy in the room. The enthusiasm, togetherness, laughter, music and willingness of everyone to participate made the day unforgettable,” said Nursing Assistant Sam Adeniyi, one of the event organisers.

Seeing colleagues from different backgrounds learning, celebrating and connecting was truly special. Above all, knowing that our celebration also made a meaningful contribution to charity was deeply fulfilling.

The event raised £1,500 for the SHINE fund, which will provide therapeutic activities and items for comfort for patients receiving care in CNTW’s services.

“We are immensely proud to have raised £1,500 for SHINE. For us, this represents more than a financial contribution; it reflects the true Nigerian spirit of generosity, community and giving back,” said Sam.

The team have been left feeling inspired to fundraise again in the future.

We came together to celebrate our heritage, but we left having made a difference. That, to us, is the true Nigerian spirit!
